Carling Cup: Wigan are into final

Arsenal's Sol Campbell heads the ball
Wigan are through to the finals of the Carling Cup after knocking Arsenal out of the competition.

The score was 1-1 at the end of the second-leg match, and Robin van Persie's free-kick in extra time looked to have put Arsenal through.

But a last gasp goal from Wigan skipper Jason Roberts on the 119th minute sent Wigan into their first major final.

The final score was 2-1 (2-2 on aggregate), but Wigan go through because they scored more away goals.

After the match Wigan manger Paul Jewell said: "We fully deserved to go through.

"I'm so pleased for the players, the chairman and supporters."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he thought it was unfortunate to lose in the last minute, but wished Wigan all the best: "Good luck to Wigan in the final."
